techUK’s AI Vision to Value Conference marks a year since the publication of the UK’s AI Opportunities Action Plan and the Government’s bold promise to “turn the UK into an AI superpower” and seize the “£400 billion” prize. 

In the year since the Action Plan was published, we have seen much progress, including developments such as the launch of the Sovereign AI Research Resources, significant investment announced for compute infrastructure, partnerships to upskill 7.5 million workers, work on developing the National Data Library, the rollout of AI Growth Zones, and various efforts pushing AI adoption across the UK. The mission and ambition are clear: for the UK to become an “AI maker, not an AI taker”.

What is also clear is that the next chapter in taking the AI Action Plan forward is moving from vision to value: accelerating adoption that drives real productivity, economic growth, and social benefit, while also scaling innovation, growing talent, and embedding trust into the technology.

But is the pace and delivery we are seeing matching the level of ambition and opportunity, or do we need to move faster? How can government and industry work together to firm up the path ahead to ensure we can deliver a truly AI-enabled economy and society by 2030, if not sooner?
